How Much Does
a Website Cost ?

Not as much as you may think, but obviously this depends on the complexity of the web site required.

The three areas of cost for a new site are :

The Purchasing / Registration of your Domain Name - As
little as £10.00 per year
(depending on your preferred name).

Re: A Domain Name needs to be registered on your behalf as the name you wish to trade under on the internet i.e. in our case www.aheadwebdesign.co.uk. This becomes yours to use for the period of time that you choose to purchase it for ( i.e. one year, two years or five years etc).

The Cost to have your site Hosted on a Server - From approx. £40 per year.

Re:
Your site pages need to reside somewhere on a computer that is available for access over the internet, where they will then remain waiting for people anywhere in the world to view. The cost for this is variable and depends heavily on your sites particular requirements.

The Building/Putting together of your site - Approximately £100 per page (or less for a very simple site).

Re: This is the main body of cost, work and time involved in getting online, each site is obviously unique and different in its requirements so we will quote accordingly after meeting with you.

What is required from you the customer ?

Presumably you have an idea what you want to convey on your website and how much detail you would like to have, this is obviously a start, the next question is what images do you have that can be used ? Imagery is an important tool and very powerful in making your site look professional and well presented.

Most important, is the 'written copy' that you would like to have entered onto your pages. Your website is your sales brochure to the world and needs to convey all that your potential customer needs to know, whilst also being written in a manner to be optimised for search engines. For more detailed information you may wish to Click Here to take a look at our 'What do You Have to Do Page'.

What is a Search Engine ?

A Search Engine is like a giant telephone directory. When your site is uploaded onto the World Wide Web, it will in time be visited by Search Engines like Google, Yahoo and MSN, they crawl your site (this is the terms used to describe the way search engines visit and look at your web pages) and index your page content, so that as people enter search terms for the things they are looking for, Google etc can direct them to your site (amongst others !), which is where Search Engine Optimisation is used to optimise your ranking on the returned results.

What is Search Engine Optimisation ?

This is the means of designing and coding your site to be Search Engine Friendly to ensure that your site gets indexed correctly and that your site is returned with a good rank within the search engines (.i.e. - when search terms are entered into google by the person looking for information, you can be number one or number one million in the list of the results that Google return). Your page rank is heavily influenced by certain strategies that have to be employed which is briefly what Search Engine Optimisation is all about.

How do I get listed with the main Search Engines ?

Ahead Web Design will submit your site to the main search engines (Google, Yahoo, and MSN as part of your Web Design Package, from there on most of the other minor search engines will eventually 'crawl' your site and index you. (this is the term used to describe the way search engines visit and look at your site)

What happens when my site is finished ?
